Changing our Minds is a very slow read. And that's a very good thing. I picture David (I don't know him, but feel like I should call him by his first name) as a good friend, coming alongside a father who is both loving and angry and conflicted, as he faces a rapidly changing world that and a son or daughter who is living out an identity he never envisioned for them. David does not thrust that father into a car or plane to whisk him away to some foreign land where he's left even more bewildered and angry. Instead, David puts his arm around his friend and says "let's walk together". Slowly David and his friend walk together into a new understanding of faith, of family, of love. Along the way their old friend Jesus shows up. This groundbreaking book offers guidance on thinking through how the reader can grow in one’s understanding of sexual identity matters. I especially appreciate the conversational tone and the practical advice on interacting with others who don’t agree/oppose full inclusion of LGBTQ people in faith communities.
